Erdogan Warns Against "New Sykes-Picot"

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a stern warning on Saturday against what he described as a potential "new Sykes-Picot order" being imposed on the Middle East.

Speaking during the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul, he stressed the urgency of stronger collaboration among Islamic nations to resist Israeli measures and the broader destabilization of the region.

“We will not allow the establishment of a new Sykes-Picot order in our region with borders to be drawn in blood,” Erdogan declared, referencing the historical colonial-era agreement as a symbol of foreign-imposed division.

He emphasized that any modern effort to redraw boundaries through violence would not be tolerated by Türkiye.

Erdogan painted a grim picture of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, stating that the current situation has deteriorated to levels worse than those seen in Nazi concentration camps.

He highlighted the desperate plight of civilians, remarking that "2 million of our sisters and brothers in Gaza have been struggling to survive under these conditions for 21 months."

The Turkish leader also pointed to the staggering human toll from the conflict, noting that more than 55,000 Palestinians — the majority of whom are women and children — have lost their lives due to Israeli assaults, with an additional 128,000 wounded.

Expressing empathy and solidarity, Erdogan extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and wished a swift healing to the injured.

He underlined that Türkiye profoundly shares in the anguish and suffering endured by the Palestinian people.
