Russia Criticizes Israel’s Gaza Plan
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Russia strongly criticized Israel’s intentions to broaden its military campaign and take control of the entire Gaza Strip, cautioning that such actions could have serious consequences across the Middle East.
"We believe that implementing such plans is extremely risky because it may lead to further degradation of the situation in occupied territories, with very serious negative consequences both for Israel's own security and for the entire Middle East region," said Alexey Fadeyev, the deputy spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing in Moscow.
His remarks were in response to a question posed by a news agency.
Fadeyev pointed out that despite involvement from mediating nations, indirect discussions between the Palestinian faction Hamas and Israeli leadership have so far yielded no substantial outcomes.
"Our immediate priority now is to prevent the complete destruction of Gaza and avoid an increase in civilian casualties. The only way to achieve these goals is through urgent agreement on a ceasefire," he emphasized.
He underscored the necessity for both parties to promptly reach mutually agreeable solutions and shift toward a stable truce.
According to Fadeyev, such a shift could pave the way for concrete progress toward a lasting settlement of the Palestinian conflict, grounded in the internationally recognized two-state solution framework.
Addressing the recent killing of Al Jazeera journalists by Israeli forces on Sunday, Fadeyev expressed Russia’s concern, describing the incident as "blatant assaults on freedom of the press."
