Muqtada al-Sadr Orders Sadrist Forces to Focus on Humanitarian Work

(MENAFN) Iraqi Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr urged on Sunday that the armed branch of his Sadrist Movement restrict its operations to humanitarian tasks until further notice.

Al-Sadr conveyed this instruction to members of Saraya al-Salam during what he described as challenging times, especially in light of what he called increasing attacks from both domestic and foreign sources.

In a statement delivered by Saleh Mohammed al-Iraqi, a senior aide close to al-Sadr, the cleric expressed prayers for Iraq, its sacred sites, and its citizens to remain protected from harm. He also cautioned that there are groups attempting to destabilize the nation “from inside and outside.”

This announcement arrives against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions, linked to an ongoing Israeli-US campaign against Iran, which has allegedly resulted in over 1,200 casualties, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and high-ranking military officials.

Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf nations that host US installations.
