Wilmington Church Listed in National Register

Mount Joy United Methodist Church was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 2026, for its local association with African American heritage and religious history in the Southbridge neighborhood of Wilmington, Delaware. Built in 1889, this historic house of worship is the oldest extant African American church in the Southbridge neighborhood and historically served as a community space for the local African American population. 

Later this fall Mount Joy United Methodist Church will be honored with a National Register certificate presentation to celebrate years of cumulated research to pursue a National Register nomination.
