Schafer assumes command of South Dakota Army National Guard Training Center

The South Dakota Army National Guard Training Center (TC) conducted a change of command ceremony on Camp Rapid between Lt. Col. Jeremy Schafer who assumed command from Lt. Col. Quenten Johnson on Oct. 3.

Johnson reflected on his time as the commander. “It is with a deep sense of gratitude and reflection that I stand before you. My time spent as the Garrison Commander has been, without a doubt, the most professionally rewarding chapter of my military career.”

As he relinquished command, Johnson expressed confidence in Schafer. “As I step aside, I am incredibly proud to have passed the colors to my friend Lt. Col. Schafer. Having known him for years, I can tell you with absolute certainty that this unit is in outstanding hands.”

Johnson concluded his remarks saying, “To the Soldiers of the Training Center, I leave you with one final charge: Remain flexible. Never lose focus on supporting the warfighter. But, above all, do not forget to train and mentor our junior Soldiers so they are ready to lead warfighters in the future.”

Schafer concluded the change of command ceremony by expressing that he is looking forward to getting to know and work with his Soldiers. He conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity and honor of being the commander.
